Review by hotel critic
During my recent stay at the Astoria Hotel in Jasper, I was quite taken with the culinary options nearby that truly celebrate Canadian cuisine. I had the pleasure of dining at Papa George's, a charming nod to Jasper's dining heritage since 1925. The ambiance felt welcoming and the food reflected local flavors beautifully, although the focus on tradition may not cater to everyone's palate. For a more casual experience, I also visited De'd Dog Bar & Grill, which was conveniently adjacent to the hotel. It was a lively spot where I savored some noteworthy chicken wings while enjoying the Stanley Cup with the locals. There's a genuine sense of community here, complemented by a pub-style atmosphere. In the mornings, I found comfort at Bear's Paw Bakery, just a stone's throw away. Their homestyle offerings, combined with the cozy feel, made breakfast a highlight. While Astoria might lack modern amenities, its strategic location makes it a solid base for exploring Jasper's culinary landscape, perfect for travelers who appreciate diverse dining experiences.
